bringing comfort and dignity to the family experience

INTERMOUNTAIN HEALTH | MCKAY-DEE HOSPITAL NICU REMODEL
Ogden, Utah

This phased remodel project consists of remodeling areas within and adjacent to the existing NICU department. The project's primary design focus is on increasing both patient and staff safety. The design now separates the milk prep process (reducing distractions and errors), and the entry sequence into the NICU has been remodeled for higher security. Following these improvements, families will be able to more safely spend the night with their babies, practicing essential caregiving before being discharged.

Consistent finishes are used in all of the remodeled spaces, building a sense of sensory cohesion throughout the department. Calming palettes and warm finishes create a comforting, dignified experience during a stressful time in a parent's life—as well as providing visual respite for caregivers to reduce burnout.
